How to Fix Immersive Engineering Crashes

How to tell an Immersive Engineering crash from the report, pick a matching version, and fix multiblocks and wire connections that won't work.

Quick Fix

Use an Immersive Engineering build for your exact Minecraft version and loader, then remove the crashing block at the Block location from the crash report.

Error Message

Description: Ticking block entity

How to Fix

1

Check the Minecraft version and loader of the IE file. The 1.21.1 builds are for NeoForge and won't load on other versions or on Forge.

2

Find Block location in the crash report, remove that block with /setblock <x> <y> <z> air and place the machine again.

3

Form multiblocks with the Engineer's Hammer on the right block. A Coke Oven is a 3x3x3 cube of its bricks that you right-click on the center block of one side, and the Excavator forms from the rear central Heavy Engineering Block.

4

Compare a multiblock that won't form with its page in the Engineer's Manual, block by block and in the same orientation.

5

For wires, use the same wire coil on the first and the second connector, and keep the line free of blocks, since a block in the way breaks the connection.

6

Fix settings in immersiveengineering-server.toml, immersiveengineering-client.toml or immersiveengineering-startup.toml instead of deleting them. NeoForge backs up and corrects bad values by itself.

Common Causes

  • The IE file doesn't match the game. On Modrinth the newest release is 12.4.2 for Minecraft 1.21.1 on NeoForge, and there is no release for 1.21.2 or later.
  • An IE machine failed while it ticked. The report says Ticking block entity, and its Name line starts with immersiveengineering: followed by the machine's ID.
  • A formed multiblock lost a block. Breaking any part of it takes the whole machine apart and puts the original blocks back, so it has to be formed again.
  • The structure isn't complete or the Engineer's Hammer hit the wrong block, so the multiblock never forms.
  • A wire connection is refused. IE says why in chat, for example The connection is obstructed or You are too far away from the previous connection.

Diagnostic Steps

  1. Match IE to your game version and loader.
  2. Read the description in the crash report.
  3. Remove the block at Block location.
  4. Rebuild the machine and form it with the hammer.

FAQ

Which version of Immersive Engineering do I need?

One built for your exact Minecraft version and loader. On Modrinth the newest is 12.4.2 for 1.21.1 on NeoForge, and older releases cover earlier versions such as 1.20.1 and 1.20.4.

Why did my multiblock turn back into normal blocks?

One of its blocks was broken or replaced. IE then takes the whole machine apart and puts the blocks it was built from back in place, so rebuild anything missing and form it again with the Engineer's Hammer.

What does The connection is obstructed mean?

A block is in the path of the wire between the two connectors. Clear the line or move a connector. Existing wires break the same way when a block ends up in their path.
